The first snow at Pico Veleta is expected soon (and even hoped for by
many people in Granada). After cancellation of the ski world
championship in the Sierra Nevada in February 1995 (because of lack of
snow), the skiing company is convinced that this winter we will see
lots of snow (the world championship is now scheduled for February
1996). If we believe this, it could mean that during the transition
period regular transport in time to the telescope may be difficult (as
is the case every year), and during winter conditions the transport
cannot be as flexible as during summer. We ask observers to take this
into account when planning their trips to the 30m telescope, and allow
for delay in the transport to and from the telescope.
The following table gives the transport times when the
ratrac is used (i.e. when the Sierra Nevada is covered by snow):

Person transport (morning hours) may be available after
contact and agreement with IRAM Granada (Javier Lobato).
