Title : Extragalactic scattering in galaxy/quasar pairs

Abstract :
We present results obtained with the VLBA on angular broadening in galaxies other than our own.
This is a unique way to investigate the ionized gas in these galaxies. The radiation from a distant
background source (a quasar) is scattered by the fluctuations in the ionized gas in the foreground
galaxy. The selected quasar lines-of-sight pass through a variety of galaxy environments, such as
HI halos, disturbed "tails", and the edges of optical disks.
