Going to Grenoble

Grenoble can easily be reached by train from Paris (TGV, 3h trip). The closest big airport from Grenoble is Lyon Saint-Exupery, which offers connections to most European large cities.  Another possibility is to fly to Geneva.
  • From the Lyon airport, take the shuttle bus to Grenoble (SATOBUS) leaving from the departure level of Terminal 1. There is one bus per hour. Tickets  can be bought in the central entrance hall (ticket counter next to the bus stop). The return ticket (30 Euros) is cheaper than two one-way tickets. The trip to Grenoble takes roughly 1 hour and stops at the central bus station next to the Grenoble railway station. Useful web sites: Lyon Airport, Airport Bus Shuttle Schedule
  • From the Geneva airport, take the train to the Geneva central station (Cornavin). From there, there is a SNCF train connection to Grenoble, via Lyon or Chambéry. Direct connections are quiterare (only a few per day).

Going to the hotel

IRAM has made reservations in several hotels:
All of them are located in Grenoble downtown, at walking distance from the railway station (max. 20 minutes) - or can be reached using the tramway line A (direction "Denis Papin") or B (direction "Gières Plaine des Sports").

Going to IRAM

From Grenoble downtown, take the tramway line B towards "Gières Plaine des Sports". Get off at the stop called Les Taillées (after the tram has crossed first the highway, then the river Isère and entered the campus). From there, IRAM is at an easy walking distance (see this plan, or this other plan). The tramway needs about 20 minutes, the frequency is about once every 10 minutes (6 min. at peak hours).

Going to restaurants and pubs

A list of restaurants and pubs was prepared for the IAU symposium 243 ("Star-disk interaction in young stars") that took place in Grenoble in 2007.
