Direct spectrum recording was performed with
a phase-locked spectrum analyser. But the measurements are time-consuming
( a few minutes of averaging) and not practical for identifying the causes
of instability, e.g. microphonics.
However, they confirm the measurements given by the DC-coupled phase
meter.
