The IRAM Backend

The IRAM Backend team conceives and develops electronic devices designed for both of IRAM's radio telescopes.

The institute's engineers and technicians cover all aspects of modern electronics, from analog electronics to digital electronics, frequency synthesis and optical fibres. All the manufactured devices are special designs and not available on the market.

The Backend team is also in charge of the inferferometer antennas' synchronization at the Plateau de Bure and the signal processing.

Since the sensitivity of a radio observatory is proportional to its bandwidth, the IRAM engineers continually develop faster and more powerful circuits at the limit of modern technology.
