Tutorials

The goal of the turorials is (only) to give you a flavor of how interferometric data are processed, not to go into all details - obviously, anybody interested should invest (much) more time after the school to exercise with the tutorial and other data.

You need to bring a Mac or Linux laptop with you (let us know if this is a problem). About 20 GB of disk space will be necessary for the tutorials. Below are links to the software and test data we propose to use.

Please do not try to download the data immediately or at the very last minute (if all school participants do it simultaneously, our servers may rapidly run into problems).

Plateau de Bure tutorials

  • Software to install: GILDAS version Aug. 2012b. GILDAS web page (go to "Download").
    • Linux: download the gildas-src-aug12b.tar.gz tarball and compile/install GILDAS following the instructions.
    • Mac: the recommended way to install GILDAS is to use fink (see the Download page). Note, that the calibration procedure will need the a2ps tool, which is not included in all OS distributions. It can easilly be installed with eg "fink install a2ps".
  • Data to download: PdBI_tutorial.tgz (2.1 GB). These are two Bure projects (PI data, but modified so that they are not directly usable for science).

ALMA tutorials

  • Software to install: CASA version 3.4. CASA home page (go to "Obtaining CASA").
  • Data to download: CASA_tutorial.tgz (1.9 GB). This is an ALMA Science Verification project (Antennae galaxy).

Problems donwloading the data?

Don't panic, data will also be available on USB sticks during the school.
